About LIC Assistant
LIC recruits Assistants for clerical work in its branch offices, including cashier, single-window operator and customer service. The last recruitment still published on licindia.in is the divisional exercise notified on 17 September 2019. On 16 October 2026 the Careers page listed the 2025 Assistant Administrative Officer recruitment and no later Assistant notice. Eligibility, fees and pay below are from the 2019 divisional notices and may differ in a later exercise.
Selection has two online stages and a pre-recruitment medical examination. Phase I, the Preliminary exam, is three separately timed objective tests: English Language or Hindi Language (the candidate chooses one) of 30 questions and 30 marks in 20 minutes, Numerical Ability of 35 questions and 35 marks in 20 minutes, and Reasoning Ability of 35 questions and 35 marks in 20 minutes. The language test is qualifying only. Its marks are not used to rank candidates. Shortlisting for the Main exam uses Numerical Ability and Reasoning Ability, provided the language minimum is met, and is capped at about 20 times the vacancies. The Preliminary information handout, as quoted when it was issued, gives five options for each question and no penalty for a wrong answer. Minimum qualifying marks in the 2019 notices are 12 (11 for SC/ST/PwBD) in the language test and 14 (13 for SC/ST/PwBD) in each of the other two.
Phase II, the Main exam, is 200 marks in 2 hours 30 minutes, with a separate timer for each test and a penalty of one fourth of a mark for each wrong answer. The structure depends on the division. In the Part A and B structure (the one in the Begusarai notice), there are five tests of 40 questions and 40 marks in 30 minutes each: General/Financial Awareness, General English, Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning Ability and Computer Aptitude, and Hindi Language. In the Part C structure in the Main information handout there is no Hindi test: General/Financial Awareness (50 questions, 50 marks, 35 minutes), General English (40, 40, 35 minutes), Quantitative Aptitude (50, 50, 40 minutes) and Reasoning Ability and Computer Aptitude (60, 60, 40 minutes). Every test has a minimum qualifying mark, and an aggregate cut-off is also applied. Preliminary marks are not added to the final selection.
Where the official language of the State or Union Territory is neither Hindi nor English, candidates who cannot show that they studied that language at Class 10 or 12 take a qualifying language test of 25 marks (10 to pass, 9 for SC/ST/PwBD). Those marks are not used in the ranking. A candidate who uses a scribe is allowed 20 extra minutes for every hour of the examination.
