About LIC AAO
LIC recruits Assistant Administrative Officers (Generalist) through an online preliminary examination, an online main examination and an interview, followed by a pre-recruitment medical examination. The notice of 16 August 2025 (AAO Generalist, 32nd batch) advertised 350 vacancies, a figure LIC says is provisional. A bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised Indian university is required. Age on 1 August 2025 is 21 to 30 years, with the relaxations the notice lists.
Phase I, the preliminary examination, is an online objective test of three separately timed sections, 20 minutes each, one hour in all. Reasoning Ability and Quantitative Aptitude have 35 questions of 1 mark each, in English and Hindi. English Language, with emphasis on grammar, vocabulary and comprehension, has 30 questions of 1 mark, in English only, and is qualifying: its marks are not counted for ranking. There is no negative marking. A candidate must qualify in each section. The notice gives minimum qualifying marks of 16 (SC/ST/PwBD) and 18 (others) in Reasoning and in Quantitative Aptitude, and 9 and 10 in English, and says the cut-off in each section and in the aggregate is decided by LIC. About 20 times the vacancies in each category, subject to availability, are shortlisted for the main examination. Preliminary marks are not added to the final merit list.
Phase II, the main examination, is online: objective tests of 300 marks in two hours, then a descriptive English paper of 25 marks in 30 minutes. Each objective section has its own timer, and there is no negative marking. Reasoning Ability (30 questions, 90 marks, 40 minutes) and Data Analysis and Interpretation (30 questions, 90 marks, 40 minutes) are in English and Hindi, as are General Knowledge and Current Affairs (30 questions, 60 marks, 20 minutes) and Insurance and Financial Market Awareness (30 questions, 60 marks, 20 minutes). The descriptive paper (emails, reports, situation analysis and precis writing; two questions) is in English, is qualifying, and is evaluated only for candidates who qualify in the objective part. Its marks are not counted for ranking. The Phase II handout says each objective question has five answers, of which one is correct.
Marks in the main examination shortlist candidates for the interview, about three times the vacancies in each category. The interview is of 60 marks, with qualifying marks of 30 for EWS, unreserved and OBC candidates and 27 for SC/ST/PwBD candidates. Final merit is main-examination marks plus interview marks. If marks are equal, the notice ranks the candidate with the higher additional post-graduate qualification first, then the older candidate. Scores of objective tests held in more than one session are normalised by the equi-percentile method and reported to two decimal places. On appointment the basic pay starts at Rs. 88,635 a month; the notice puts total emoluments at the minimum of the scale at about Rs. 1,26,000 a month in an A-class city. A selected candidate gives an undertaking to serve for four years, with liquidated damages of Rs. 5,00,000 if that undertaking is broken.
